Hi Friends,
I'm Alex Scolari, a student at The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California. I have a very personal interest in supporting breast cancer research, so I'm really excited and proud to be producing The Girly Show. It's an all-female cast of femme fatales from Broadway veterans and professional dance companies, to comedians and the stars of tomorrow. These ladies, from age 7 to "we don't dare ask" are going to keep you amazed and delighted from the opening number to the curtain call. I guarantee it will be a thrilling and rewarding evening for everyone.
As a young woman, I am sad that we must live in fear of getting breast cancer. A cure could be right around the corner so we want to do our part and raise money for this worthy cause.
Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated directly to The UCLA Breast Center. Here's what they'd like you to know about their program:
The UCLA Breast Center was first established in 1992 under the directorship of Dr. Susan Love. The mission of the UCLA Breast Center is to bring the most comprehensive and compassionate care to our patients and to develop future medicine to end the suffering of women with breast cancer.
In 1996, the Revlon Foundation made a generous gift to the UCLA Breast Center and the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center was born. The following year, Dr. Helena Chang was recruited to lead the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center. The Center has an architecturally unique appearance, with calmness, beauty and functional design that distinguishes the Center. The attention to patients' emotional and clinical needs truly reflects our commitment and inspiration by providing the best and the most compassionate care to women with breast problems. Each year, the Center provides exceptional care, with more than 4,000 visits by women who are seeking diagnosis, treatment and advice.
Through our vision, mission and dedication, the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center leads the field of total breast care. We are committed to serve our patients, our community and women from all corners of the world.
Producing this event is a dream-come-true for me, and it's still a work in progress. If you are interested in getting involved, or sponsorship, please see the getting involved page on this site . I look forward to seeing you at this fabulous show!
Sincerely,
Alex Scolari, The Girly Show

Alexandra Scolari
Producer
Alex Scolari is a senior at The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California. She produced her first charity event last year when a friend at school was going through a battle with brain cancer. In Harmony, was a night of music performed by a cast of very talented teenage singers from the Buckley School and around Los Angeles. The show, which took place at Mbar in Hollywood proved to be a very rewarding and meaningful experience for everyone involved.
"As young performers, the extent of our performance opportunities had not really gone much further than performing for the sake of entertainment. Through In Harmony; we learned that performing to make a difference in someone's life gave great meaning to our art form. I feel blessed that I was given this opportunity. The fact that our friend was able to come and enjoy the show herself was really the highlight of the evening. To see the smile on her face made it worth every second."
Shortly after that period while watching a breathtaking video performance of Part of This World by breast cancer survivor Michelle Nicastro (please see Michelle Nicastro Bio), Alex and her friends were inspired to produce The Girly Show and donate the proceeds to breast cancer research. "Because as women of all ages we feel this cause hits close to home. So many of us are affected by this disease, by either knowing a loved one with breast cancer or directly. It saddens me that we must live in fear when a cure could be right around the corner" Alex and her very talented friends are excited to bring you The Girly Show. El Portal Theatre is a historic landmark in the San Fernando Valley located in the heart of North Hollywood. The theatre, originally built as a vaudeville house in 1926, sits across Lankershim Blvd from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Art Institue of California-Hollywood.
Since its opening in 1926 -- first for Vaudeville, then Silent Movies, and then Academy Award-winning films -- as the primo movie house in the valley, the theatre has weathered the Jazz Age, the Depression, 4 wars, and finally the great earthquake of 1994. The lobbies boast luscious carpeting secured in 2004 from the now demised Los Angeles Shubert Theatre.
Rebuilt in the late 90's and opened in January of 2000, the once 1400-seat movie palace now houses three theatres -- the 42-seat Studio Theatre, the 95-seat Forum, and the 360-seat MainStage -- along with the Judith Kaufman Art Gallery, featuring many of Los Angeles visual artists. There is even complimentary parking behind the theatre in the Lankershim Elementary School parking lot.
