Hi Friends,

I’m Alex Scolari, a student at The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California. I would like to tell you about a charity variety show for Breast Cancer Research that I am producing. The event, The Girly Show  will be held at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, CA on Sept 10, 2010 at 730PM.

The Girly Show, an all-girl song and dance variety show, will raise money to benefit breast cancer research. We decided to donate the proceeds to breast cancer because as women of all ages, this issue hits close to home. As a young woman, I am sad that women must live in fear of getting the disease when a cure could be right around the corner. We hope to do our part to bring a cure to light by raising money for this worthy cause. And, at the same time, we want the show to be very entertaining and fun for the whole family. Performed by an all-female cast of all ages from musical theater to professional dance companies, Broadway veterans to local talent, The Girly Show is sure to be a thrilling evening.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated directly to The UCLA Breast Center. Please read the following excerpt to learn more:

  • The UCLA Breast Center was first established in 1992 under the directorship of Dr. Susan Love. The mission of the UCLA Breast Center is to bring the most comprehensive and compassionate care to our patients and to develop future medicine to end the suffering of women with breast cancer.

  • In 1996, the Revlon Foundation made a generous gift to the UCLA Breast Center and the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center was born. The following year, Dr. Helena Chang was recruited to lead the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center. The Center has an architecturally unique appearance, with calmness, beauty and functional design that distinguishes the Center. The attention to patients’ emotional and clinical needs truly reflects our commitment and inspiration by providing the best and the most compassionate care to women with breast problems. Each year, the Center provides exceptional care, with more than 4,000 visits by women who are seeking diagnosis, treatment and advice.

  • Through our vision, mission and dedication, the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center leads the field of total breast care. We are committed to serve our patients, our community and women from all corners of the world.

I am so excited to present The Girly Show. With some amazing entertainment lined up, we are still in the audition process and seek additional talent. We hope you will come out for this important cause. If you would like to be involved or need additional information regarding auditions or sponsorship, please contact us at info@thegirlyshow.org

Sincerely,
Alex Scolari, The Girly Show

El Portal Theatre

El Portal Theatre is a historic landmark in the San Fernando Valley located in the heart of North Hollywood. The theatre, originally built as a vaudeville house in 1926, sits across Lankershim Blvd from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Art Institue of California-Hollywood.

Since its opening in 1926 -- first for Vaudeville, then Silent Movies, and then Academy Award-winning films -- as the primo movie house in the valley, the theatre has weathered the Jazz Age, the Depression, 4 wars, and finally the great earthquake of 1994. The lobbies boast luscious carpeting secured in 2004 from the now demised Los Angeles Shubert Theatre.

Rebuilt in the late 90's and opened in January of 2000, the once 1400-seat movie palace now houses three theatres -- the 42-seat Studio Theatre, the 95-seat Forum, and the 360-seat MainStage -- along with the Judith Kaufman Art Gallery, featuring many of Los Angeles visual artists. There is even complimentary parking behind the theatre in the Lankershim Elementary School parking lot.
